The Army has taken delivery of nearly 150 high-mobility trucks.

The Iveco Defence Vehicles, with 4 x 4, 6 x 6 and 8 x 8 variants were selected after three months of intensive on- and off-road testing. The trucks feature different body types and will be used in a number of configurations for transporting troops, food and medicine, as well as supporting other vehicles. They are also fitted with interchangeable armored or conventional cabs that can be mounted on all the chassis, depending on requirements at any given time.

The trucks are the Army’s first units since 2007 and the new IDV have superior features to the previous model currently in service and are fitted with Allison Automatics, designed to meet demanding military requirements.

The Spanish defense vehicles are fitted with Allison 3000 Series™ and 4000 Series™ equipped with integral hydraulic retarders.

“The Allison-equipped Iveco Defence Vehicles have a number of significant advantages,” said Bruno Re, Allison customer integration and application engineer. “Our transmissions are calibrated for military applications and enhance vehicle maneuverability and performance. For instance, the superior startability delivered by the Allison torque converter was essential to pass the curb test (50 cm curb height) with a fully loaded truck."
